He brought laughter and joy to those around him and meant the world to his family. His memory will be forever cherished. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he lived in the Akron area for over 40 years. Paul was a graduate of Indiana University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and was thrilled to see the Hoosiers win the college football championship in January.
Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Virginia Blum, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rue; daughters, Rebecca Hixon, Robin (Doug) Merideth and Heidi Blum; grandchildren, Ava (Emma) Skrapics, Hannah (Austin) Agosta, Sean Merideth, Dylan Davis, Evan Merideth, Emma Merideth, Allie Hixon and Naomi Klara Hanes; great-grandson, Oliver Skrapics; sister, Lisa (Bob) Bonham and brother, Fritz (Kathy) Blum; and many other relatives and friends.
Paul was an active member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, along with chairing numerous committees. He also served his church by being a leader and founding member of Cub Scout Pack 3048 and Troop 48. Having earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a boy in Indianapolis, Paul wanted to help others on their Scouting trail, and he played a key part in helping 32 young people earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Paul loved woodworking and home projects, and he was always working on a new table, dresser, or chair for himself or his family. Paul was also a 3rd Degree Master Mason in the Coventry-Akron Lodge.
