Paul R. “Pete” Merritt, 98, passed away in a peaceful sleep on April 20, 2013. He was a fantastic gardener, avid sportsman, and a superb storyteller. He was a member of the AFLCIO Truckers union and an active participant in the Wingfoot Hunt Club. He married Twyla Lois Beal in 1940 and was married for 62 years until Twyla passed away in 2003.
He leaves two daughters, Joyce Kathleen (Michael) Moreck of New Philadelphia, OH and Pauline Kaza of Englewood, FL; grandchildren, Kimm (David), Stephen (Melissa), Katrina (Dennis), Michael (Uasu), and Richard (Debbie); and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor O. Homer Burkett officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
