Richard Bowman, 65, entered into the joy of his Lord and Savior on March 30, 2026, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Akron to the late William Sr. and Geraldine (Gregory) Bowman. He was a 1979 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Akron.
Rick was a faithful servant and Pastor of First Baptist Church of Tallmadge since 2014, where he dearly loved and cared for his congregation. He was also a climate coach at Sieberling CLC, where he loved the students and staff, and was beloved by them as well. Rick was an accomplished sports writer and editor at Record Publishing Company. He was the proud author of his book, Vikings in the Playoffs: The Golden Era Under Bud Grant, 1968–1977.
Rick was active in the community as the founder of the IBAA basketball league, and he also coached church softball for many years. While extremely competitive, Rick used these platforms to reach others for Christ. Rick loved nature and enjoyed going on hikes with his beloved dog, Bear. More than anything, Rick had a passion for others. He was a faithful and compassionate shepherd to those in need, always lending a helping hand and giving of himself. Rick was a devoted family man to his core, and he fiercely loved and protected his family. He will be deeply missed, and his memory and impact will be eternal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Edna “Lou” Pergins. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Stephanie; daughters, Katie (Brandon) Shoaff and Abby Bowman; brother, William Jr.; sisters, Brenda (David) Prange and Bonnie (John) Oswald; father-in-law, Stephen Pergins; sister-in-law, Stacey (Rick) Rasicci; nieces and nephews, Melissa, Ben (Nishat), Meghan (Conner) and their son, Trevor, Cait (Eric), Patrick, and Miranda (Michael); and countless loving relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Tallmadge, 848 Southeast Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Roy Durieux officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Tallmadge in memory of Pastor Rick.
