Ronald R. Floyd Sr., 77, went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2016. He was born in Akron to the late Randolph “Doc” and Willie “Billie” (Parker) Floyd and was a lifelong resident. Ron was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, retired from Goodyear as Chief of Emergency Services after 35 years, and worked at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home.
Ron was also very active in the community. He was a life member of the Akron Baptist Temple, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Kim (Gary) Somerville, Terri (Buddy) Tharp and Randy (Dana); grandchildren, T.J. (Meghan), Nicole (Chris), Gary (Kelly), Travis (Felecia), Jennifer (Tristan), Rebecca, Collin and Amanda; and great-great grandchildren, Cade, Riley, Caiden, Addison, Adam, A.J. and Amelia.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tim Huth officiating, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or Hospice of Summa.
