Ronald Vear McCune, 70, died peacefully in his sleep on March 21, 2011 at Akron City Hospital. He tried to fight the cancer that grew so rapidly but chose to take the path to his heavenly Father.
Ron was born in Akron on February 11, 1941 to the late Vear and Lila (Fornash) and lived here his entire life. He worked for Ohio Edison as a relay tester and also part-time as an alignment man for Sears Automotive at Chapel Hill. He was a member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, took care of the altar candles, and fetched and carried so Judy could continue being the music director. He also belonged to the Greensburg Lions Club and the Thursday night card group.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Hoskins. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Judy; children, Dianna Smoot (John), David McCune (Denise), Debra Myers (Tony) and Danielle Witwer (Mike); grandchildren, Amanda Smoot, Bethany and Angela Witwer, Nicole Sennett, and Jenna, Brandon and Justin Myers; very special friend, Roy Brown; and father-in-law, Wilbur Ress.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Dr., Akron, OH 44312, with Rev. Karen Hartley and Rev. Don Booth officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Calling hours will be held at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., on Thursday, March 24, from 4 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chancel Choir at Wedgewood United Methodist Church.
