Ruth Isabel Smith, born August 10, 1915 and a 95-year resident of Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, passed away peacefully at the Regency Retirement Village in Huntsville, Alabama on October 12, 2011.
She is survived by her son, Freddie Smith, a retired Army Colonel, and his wife Regenia, from Harvest, Alabama; son-in-law, Charles Segner, from Cuyahoga Falls; four grandchildren, Laura Elliott, from Farmington Hills, Michigan, Kimberly Marquardt, from Cuyahoga Falls, and Wendy Dilbeck and Robin Steele, both from Huntsville; and five great-grandchildren, Derek Marquardt, Clayton Hughes, and Brody, Victoria, and Sydney Dilbeck. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred Smith and her devoted daughter, Nancy Segner.
Ruth was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She spent much of her life supporting others with her skills in sewing and crafts making. She traveled throughout Europe while visiting her son during his seven years of military service in Germany. Later in life her most enjoyable moments were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. with Rev. Alvin Boehlke officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday for ONE HOUR prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 724 Sumner St., Akron, OH 44311.
