Ruth N. (Hess) Carpenter

March 11, 1922 — October 18, 2011

Ruth N. Carpenter, 89, passed away October 18, 2011. She was born in Akron to the late Clarence and Gertrude (Gray) Hess.

Mrs. Carpenter worked for Baker Marine Corporation in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She had been an Akron resident most of her life and was extremely active in the community. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter # 500, the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Kodesh Court # 19, Pythian Sisters Temple 247, the Eagles # 555 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3383. She was also past-president of the Akron Jaycee’s and was involved in many performances for the University Club plays.

Bowling was also a passion for Ruth. She was a State of Ohio bowling champion in 1968, was the head scorekeeper for many years at the PBA Tournament of Champions and participated for many years in the Eckard Baldwin Bowling League.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Western Reserve Masonic Community and the Hospice Care Center.

Preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, she is survived by her sons, Daniel (Annette) Breit and Ernest (Mary); grandchildren, Wendy (Clare) Thomas, of Columbus, Dan (Karen) Breit, of Cincinnati and Allison (Steve) Smith, of Cincinnati; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A private, family burial has taken place.  A donation in her name may be made to Western Reserve Masonic Community, 4931 Nettleton Rd., Medina, OH 44256.
