Ruth Opal Hiener

Ruth Opal Hiener, 100, passed away July 7, 2022. She was born in Massillon, OH and was an Akron area resident all her life.

Ruth was a fan of American Bandstand in the 50’s, and loved watching Shirley Temple movies, Big Band music, Glenn Miller, and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She married Albert Hiener in July 1948, who predeceased her in 1984, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharlene. She is survived by her children, Karen (Doug) Menefee, Gary (Harriet) Hiener and Darrell (Roberta) Hiener; grandchildren, Tiffany, Heather (partner Andrew), Lisa, Paul (partner Lisa) and Crystal; and 4 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 12 noon at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Sam Martin officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon, with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Donations in Ruth’s name may be made to Firestone Park United Methodist Church, 250 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron, OH 44301.
