Sammie E. “Slick” Watson, 78, passed away after a short-term illness with cancer on October 1, 2011. He was born in Monroe County, TN to the late Gib and Della Watson and had been an Akron resident since 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retired from the Ford Motor Company with 42 years of service and attended The Chapel.
Mr. Watson took pride in keeping his home and lawn looking immaculate. He also spent countless hours cleaning and polishing his cars. He was a devoted family man and a Good Samaritan to his neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce, Roy and Junior and niece, Wilma Ingram. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evalena; son, James; nieces, Wanda, of Madisonville, TN, Brenda (Ralph) Stakely, of Fayetteville, GA and Yvonne (Harold) Cardin, of Madisonville, TN; sisters-in-law, Pauline, Jackie Perrine and Wilda Green; and nephew-in-law, Robert.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 5, from 5 – 7 p.m.
