Ted D. Gardner

January 10, 1931 — March 19, 2014

Ted D. Gardner, born January 10, 1931 passed away peacefully March 19, 2014 surrounded by family and close friends after a courageous battle with Parkinson Disease.  Ted was an avid Cleveland sports fan and enjoyed many games in the company of his loving wife Shirley rooting for the home team.  Ted was a Teamster for 38 accident free years driving for Tip-Top and Wonder Bakery, and in retirement brightened the day of many Acme Click shoppers with his wit and charm.  In his early years Ted was an avid outdoorsman sharing his love for hunting and fishing with fellow drivers who donned him the “Senator” for his stately manner and distinguished gray hair.  Ted was a gentle, humble man with a quiet resolve and a warm smile that sparkled behind his twinkling blue eyes.  The past 18 years Ted and Shirley enjoyed winters with lifelong friends at the Ocean Village in Hutchinson Island, Florida playing cards (aces), rolling bocce, watching movies and dinning out.  Ted blessed us with his love, laughter, kindness and warmth that forever enriched our lives with a character and spirit that will long outlive his wonderful life.

Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Lois; and brother, Robert.  Ted is survived by his wife of 61 years Shirley (McCleary); sister, Judy (Bob) Huff; sister in-law Aggie; daughters, Cindy (Dennis) Helmick and Vicky (Tom) Gray; son, Dan (Renee) and grandchildren; Jason Helmick, Reanna Davis, Julie Reheiser (Tony), Daniel Gardner Jr. (Christy), Lindsey Gray, David (Sarah) Gray, Shannon Maslanka, Nicole (Daven) Primm; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 22 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E. Market St., with Rev. George Lee and Pastor Linda Bradley officiating.  Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St. on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 30 minutes prior to the service at the church from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
