Thomas H Schuck

October 20, 1921 — March 30, 2011

Thomas H. Schuck, born October 20, 1921, passed away unexpectedly March 30, 2011. He grew up on a farm in Wishaw, PA with his grandmother and Uncle Clarence, and came to Akron in 1940 after his high school graduation. He was hired by Goodyear to work in the calendar room in 1941 and retired in 1978 with 37 years of service. He also served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II (European Theatre) from 1942 – 1945, and soon after, married Marjorie Esmeyer on April 14, 1946.  They were just 2 weeks from celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. He was also a member of the Wedgewood United Methodist for 60 years.

Thomas loved being outdoors working in his garden or flower beds, and enjoyed bringing little bouquets of flowers to his wife or taking them to his daughter, Karen. He looked forward to going fishing every summer in Rice Lake, Canada and loved to talk – and he had many stories to tell. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at Akron City Summa Hospital.

Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Leila (Secrist), he is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Karen (Don) Laber and Gary Thomas Schuck; grandchildren, Carol Caplinger Sayre and Brian Thomas Caplinger; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; very close next door neighbor and friend, Jean Stickles; and his perfect little dog, Abby.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11 a.m., at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Dr., Akron, OH 44312, with Rev. Karen Hartley officiating. Private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 3, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chancel Choir at Wedgewood United Methodist Church.
