Valerie Dorsey

Valerie Cudgel Dorsey peacefully went home to be with the Lord August 26, 2026. She was born in Akron on June 26, 1954 to the late Charles Vernon and Velma Lee Cudgel (Walker). She proudly graduated from South High School in 1972 and shortly after moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she resided for more than 11 years.

While living in Atlanta, two of her proudest seminal moments occurred. At age 26, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Also, during these years she met and married the late Reverend Eddie Dorsey III and through the union her daughter, Jasmine Denise Gardner (Dorsey) was born, her one and only child. After eventually returning to Ohio to be closer to family, Valerie worked as a receptionist for various community organizations where she was known to have a comforting assuasive voice and encouraging smile.

Valerie was a devoted mother, sister and daughter and she exhibited unwavering love and dedication to those closest to her. Throughout her life, her family and devotion to Christ remained her principal purpose. She loved music, was an avid reader, cinephile, and she deeply enjoyed letter writing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Zenobia Marie Cudgel; close cousins, Renee White and Denise Bowen; and best friend, Sandra Scott.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Booker Trent Cudgel; her daughter, Jasmine Gardner (Kevin); granddaughter, Evangeline and grandson, Evander; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
