Virgie "Jackie" (Hunt) Lucas

October 19, 1919 — May 10, 2017

Virgie O. "Jackie" Lucas, 97, passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2017. Born in Decherd, TN to Wylie and Annie Hunt, she resided in the Akron area most of her life. Jackie was a member of the Akron First Seventh-day Adventist Church and was affectionately known as 'Grannie' to many. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, quilting, reading her bible, listening to gospel and country music, caring for others, and was especially famous for her chicken and dumplings.
Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert; infant son, Robert Jr.; and 11 siblings, she will be sadly missed by daughters, Yvonne Johnston, Charlotte (Tony) Ficarra; son, David; grandchildren, Wendall Jackson, Jr., Kim Teodosio, Bryan, Jason and Angela Ficarra; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and special friends.
Jackie's family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to those from Summa Hospice, Circle of Life and others who cared for her especially, Jeannette Smith and Shavitress Carter.
Friends may call Monday, May 15, 2017 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Ted Bartter officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
