Dortha J. Gaskins

Dortha J. Gaskins, 90, passed away July 22, 2021. She was born in Branchland, WV to the late Ausborne and Mary (Gadd) Morrison and was active in the deaf community for many years. She was a member of Deaf Outreach Church of North Canton, enjoyed camping with the Ohio Silent Wanderers, was an avid bowler in the deaf women’s league, and also played softball. She was extremely talented with her hands, able to create just about anything.

Preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Jr., she is survived by her daughters, Donna (Eddie) Sloan and Lori (Steve) Schapel; grandchildren, Joseph (Allison) Burick, Jerred Sloan, and Nathan and Emma Schapel; great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Jackson and Olivia; and brother, William Morrison.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 3 p.m. at the Deaf Outreach Church, 2200 Greensburg Rd., North Canton, OH 44720 with Pastor Darwin Smith officiating. Calling hours will be held at church for two hours prior to the service, from 1 – 3 p.m., with private burial at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in memory of Dortha.
