Karen L. Abernathy, 69, passed away October 24, 2021. She was born in Minden, WV to the late Lester and Marjorie (Jamison) Persinger, moved to Akron as a child and was a Kenmore High School graduate.
Karen married Rev. Mike Abernathy Sr. and was an Akron-area resident for most of her life, attending Harvestime Temple in Hartville. Karen and Mike also lived many places throughout the country over the years for their ministry, including 10 years in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by her son, Michael (Katie); granddaughters, Kayla and Brooke; sisters, Sandra (Gilford) Harper and Beverly Sue Lance; sister-in-law, Linda (Ray) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Raymond Smith II officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 1 – 2 p.m. Interment at East Liberty Cemetery. To view the livestream funeral, please go to:
