Lois Janet Helwig, 85, went home to be with the Lord July 16, 2023. She was born in Akron to the late Roy and Edith Hastings and was a proud member of Brown Street Baptist Church since 1965. She was a member of the PTA for over 20 years and was a loving and devoted mother and wife.
Lois had 3 passions in life: her family, her faith, and her friends. She was considered the “neighborhood mom” and was always there if you needed someone to talk to or just sit quietly on the front porch. She will be deeply missed.
Lois is survived by her brother, Darrell Hastings; sister, Kathi Lamtman; sister-in-law, Doris Hastings; children, Jimmy Carper, Johnny (Shelly) Carper, Connie (Rob) Helwig, Judy (Vince) Cox, and Jerry Carper; 5 granddaughters; 1 great-granddaughter; 3 great-grandsons; 1 grandson-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Lois also had many extremely close and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Jeff; daughter, Janet; granddaughter, Amber; brother, Larry Hastings; and sister-in-law, Helen.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Robert L. Kuhns officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. with burial at Rose Hill Burial Park.
