Matilda “Tillie” (Moirano) Hofacker, 95 years young, departed this world on October 9, 2022, in the presence of loving family, knowing that she would be received into the arms of Jesus.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband of 52 years, Richard “Dick” Hofacker, her parents, Guiseppe “Joe” and Lena Moirano, her siblings Rose “Honey” (Chris) Gaone, John (Evelyn) Moirano, Mary “Pet” (Jim) Procaccio, Joe “Babe” Moirano, Eugene Moirano, and Marjorie Hofacker. Tillie will be missed by many friends and family who are heart-broken by the loss of her physical presence while cherishing many wonderful memories that will sustain them until they meet again. Tillie will be especially missed by her loving children and grandchildren, son Richard (Beth) and their children Brandon, Nicholas, Joshua and Michele; daughter Velda; and son David (Lisa) and their children Evan, Justin, and Julia. Others feeling her loss include her sisters-in-law, Margaret Moirano and Patricia Moirano; special great-nieces Corinne Newcome, Carly Stanfield, and Cassie Laube, who helped Tillie learn how to be a grandma; and numerous nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and great, great nieces/nephews, all of whom Tillie adored. She enjoyed every opportunity to visit with her large extended family and appreciated all the visits she received, especially in recent years.
Tillie was born in Corning, Ohio on May 31, 1927, and moved to Akron as a toddler where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a proud graduate of Hower Vocational High School where she studied cosmetology and served as a cheerleader. She remembered those cheers from high school and put them to use cheering on Cleveland sports teams, most recently the Guardians as they won the AL Central. Tillie worked for several salons including M. O’Neils and the Akron Women’s City Club, before becoming a full-time Mom in 1961. She continued to use her cosmetology skills throughout her life to the benefit of family and friends. Tillie quietly gave to so many throughout her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She leaves a legacy of volunteering for her children’s schools, her church, and various charities. She loved to bake and cook for family and friends, and received many requests for her noodles, lasagna, lemon bars, and bread. Children are said to be good judges of character which is why children loved to be around Tillie. Of course, Tillie never met a child she did not love. All those who knew Tillie were amazed by her strength, spirit, and humor, even in her final days. She never complained and would greet everyone with her beautiful smile.
Special thanks to those who cared for Tillie including Dr. Meli, Dr. Chammas, Amy, Lynn Yanko and all her aides, and Crossroads Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 2 p.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 44 University Avenue with Fr. Norm Douglas officiating.
