Robert Gordan, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ July 27, 2021. Bob was born in Akron on March 21, 1929, the only child of Condo and Sophia (Kreuter) Giordanengo. He graduated from Kent State University with degrees in Elementary Education and Business. Bob was a member of Alpha Phi Omega and helped build the Victory Bell monument on Blanket Hill, where the events of May 4, 1970 took place.
Bob was a fifth-grade teacher at Seiberling Elementary School, retiring after 31 years. He was a skilled film projectionist (I.A.T.S.E. Local 364) in area movie theatres for over 50 years, and a life-member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church. Bob was a 32nd degree Mason, Joppa Lodge 666, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite -Valley of Akron.
Bob was a very active in the Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout and ACE Air Explorer ranks. He received the Paul W. Litchfield Medal for outstanding Goodyear Scout and was privileged to be photographed with Orville Wright on the aviator’s 80th birthday at the Air Explorer Meet at Wright Patterson AFB. Bob later served as a Unit Commissioner and was a member of the Great Trail Council’s Founder’s Circle.
Bob was a long-time volunteer with the Akron Soap Box Derby as a driver and local guide for visiting celebrities and dignitaries. He traveled extensively after retiring from teaching, visiting most of the countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Bob toured every country in South America and traveled all 50 of the United States.
Bob was especially grateful to Doctors Kathleen Shoemaker and Thomas Bear for improving the quality of his life and to Joanne Wolf, his loving caregiver and companion during the last few years of his life. Special thanks also to Holly Gilbert and Shawn Markko for their heartfelt care of Bob.
Preceded in death by his parents, and cousins, Anthony Gordan and Lucille Morris, he is survived by many friends and former students.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 12 - 2 p.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. A Masonic Service will be at 2:00 followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Rory Wineka. In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children and/or Scouting USA, Great Trail Council. Private interment to follow.
