Jessie M. (Knowlton) Chapin

August 21, 1925 ~ August 9, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old


Jessie M. Chapin, 90, went home to be with the Lord August 9, 2016.  She was born in Wingett Run, OH to the late Richard and Edna (Kendall) Knowlton. After graduating from Salem-Liberty High School, she moved to Akron where she met and married Manuel.  They enjoyed boating, camping, dancing and traveling for 45 yrs until his death in 1992. Jessie served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. She worked for Goodyear Aircraft during WWII, Brinks Inc, and the State of Ohio Health Dept.  She was a longtime member of Arlington Memorial Baptist Church and Eastern Star.  Jessie loved playing music and singing, starting with her family and hymns on the farm and continued with her fellow residents at Longmeadow Care Center. The family would like to thank the staff and providers of Longmeadow Care Center for the care, love and kindness they gave Mom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; sisters, Geneva E. Lane, and Velma I. Elam; and brother, Ralph F. Knowlton. Jessie is survived by her son, Gregory (Brenda), of Deerfield; grandson, Rob (Tabatha), of Sebring; sister-in-law, Willa, of Whipple; and friend Merle Carder. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 12 noon at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Dave Bogue officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arlington Memorial Baptist Church, 2330 E Market St, Akron, OH 44312, in Jessie’s name.
