Charles E. "Chick" Carst, 99, passed away April 27, 2018. He was born in Toronto, Canada to the late Edward and Jeanne (Van Vollenhoven) and moved to Akron at a young age.
Charles was a 1937 East High School graduate and served his country as a Staff Sergeant of the Army 11th Armor Division in World War II. After the war, he worked in sales in the trucking industry for 36 years. An avid golfer, Charles made an incredible 8 holes-in-one and he enjoyed his many years as a starter at Valley View golf course.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; brother, Edward; sister, Margaret Albright; niece, Jan Ringenbach; and nephew, Gary Parks. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy and Cathy (Steve) Sudar; nephews, Ed (Nancy) Carst and Paul (Susan) Albright; and nieces, Pat Carst, Susan (Bob) Martel and Linda (Art) Anderson.
We are grateful to many in our community who helped dad live in his own home until the end: Lisa, with the Area Agency on Aging; Passport Pros; Summa Palliative, Home Care and Hospice; Visiting Angels and Midwest Home Care, especially Angie, Cindy, Jaime, Darla, Brenda, Joy, Tommy, Pat and many others; Cuyahoga Falls Fire and Paramedics; Sarah Care of Stow; Bath Creek Estates rehabilitation; Challenge Golf, Mr. Ron Trisano and volunteers; his doctors and specialists; the Springer family for allowing him to work at Valley View golf course until he was 90 years old; and Honor Flight for WW II veterans.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 12 noon at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. M. Karen Ballard officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home immediately prior to the service, from 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon. Burial with military honors will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
