Karl W. Brothers, 94, passed away December 8, 2020. He was born in Akron to the late Martin Luther and Marie (Krumroy) Brothers. After graduating from East High School, he served with the U.S. Marines in the battle for Okinawa during WWII and occupation duty in China post-war. Returning to Akron, he joined the Akron Police Department, reaching the rank of Sergeant and retiring after 47 years, 11 months.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Oberia, and is survived by sons, Randall (Nancy) and Eric; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Shirley Dickinson and Lisa Fisher.
For many years, he was an active member of the Akron Sail and Power Squadron, Akron Yacht Club, Cascade Locks Park Association and Mustill Store Museum, Cuyahoga Valley Civil War Round Table, and the Summit County Historical Society, among others.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held later.
