Mary Ann Arney (Abbey Ann)

Heaven welcomed a beautiful angel on June 1, 2021 as Mary Ann Arney passed away at age 84,  in Akron, Ohio. Mary Ann was born to parents, Flavil & Ruth (Helms) Fisher and she was the 2nd of 3 daughters. She grew up doing everything with her sister Helen, who was 1 year older. Her mother made their clothes and dressed them alike. Mary Ann was raised going to church at the Akron Baptist Temple. She developed a strong faith and in the last few years attended the A/C City Church. Mary Ann was athletic and loved roller skating, ice skating, sled riding, swimming/diving, and dancing while growing up. When she was 16, the 3rd daughter (Jonni) arrived; she and her sister Helen, were so excited to have a baby sister. Despite the age difference and eventually living in 3 states, the sisters were close. After their children were grown, they took an annual "sisters' trip". In 1959, Mary Ann and her husband started a family of their own. She was blessed with four sons and was a wonderful, dedicated mother.  She survived the antics of 4 rambunctious boys -  3 of the boys ended up in 2 hospitals on the same day from separate injuries. Mary Ann developed a love for garage sales and thrift shopping and founded Abbey Ann’s Second Hand in 1986. She was honest, hardworking and the customers loved her upbeat personality. Her sons became involved and it flourished as a family business with multiple locations. She was ahead of her time in becoming successful with reselling. What a ride that was as she quickly became well known as Abbey Ann. Mary Ann always lived a principled life - honesty, purity, unselfishness and  loving. She will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her sons, Timmy (Tammy), Danny (Denise), Terry (Denise), and Jerry; her sisters, Helen Weber and Jonni Fisher; grandchildren, Ryan and Kaylee; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E Market St., Akron, OH 44305. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. – 12 noon, immediately followed by a service at 12 noon. After the service, the family will host a gathering in Green, OH.
